Friday September,
28 2007 Friday a team of explosives experts found a 1000 lb aerial bomb of American origin.
It’s the fourth and largest bomb ever excavated by aDeDe.
The explosive had to be neutralised at the site what took some extra safety measures.
After consultation with the explosive experts, EOD,
governor Denys, mayor De Wispelaere of Ertvelde,
security services and DEC decided to evacuate. To limit possible consequences at explosion, they placed containers filled with water and walls around the bomb and closed all the piping (liquid air and earth gas) in the environment.
Sunday at midday an EOD expert rendered safe the bomb. EOD successfully removed the fuze and brought it to destruction.
The bomb was transported to the base of EOD at Meerdaal
Around 16pm all the 330 evacuated people
could return to their houses.
The entire operation was supervised by the Province.
