Since June 2008, the authorities of the Belgian province Hainaut have started working on the rectification of the river ‘la Douve’ in the small town of Warneton.
The works on this large terrain have been suspended after the recovery of ammunition during the leveling of ground. In order to protect the security of the laborers and the local population, Ipalle has called in aDeDe to investigate and secure the terrain.
After the scanning of the zone several hundred pieces of metal have been identified and marked for excavation. Since, the experts of aDeDe have recovered explosives almost daily.
The recovered ammunition mainly origin from British artillery and had been fired during the last years
of the First World War. There is also a chance of finding toxic ammunition.
An evacuation of the neighbourhood has not yet been necessary.
All precautions are already taken in close collaboration with the local authorities.
