    Research for explosives in loon

     During
soil remediations in a loon underneath the Betuwelijn in Zevenaar, a contractor ran up on small calibre ammunition and hand/gungranates of German produce. This ammunition was identified and made harmless by the Explosives Cleaning Service of the Royal Army (NL). After this, the work was stopped.

In Januari 2006, in cooperation with T&A Survey BV the loon was further examined for the presence of remaining ammunition

Using a special underwater ammunition separation technique, that has never been used in the Netherlands before, it allows to separate sludge and ammunition from each other at the same time, the conventional explosives (CE) are removed ' in situ' from the layer of sludge.

The ammunition was identified and temporarily secured in expectation of the destruction by the Explosives Cleaning Service of the Dutch ministry of Defence (EODDEF). The loon was delivered  ‘free of explosives’ to the client.
